About this place
Just a short walk from Kugayama Station, Seika has the familiar rhythm of a neighbourhood Chinese restaurant where woks clatter continuously. Whether you are dropping in for a solitary lunch or a casual evening drink, the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with counter and table seating surrounded by classic paper menu strips along the walls.
A dependable starting point is the gyoza, fried until evenly browned and crisp on the outside. Packed with the punchy flavours of garlic and Chinese chives inside a thin wrapper, they pair naturally with a cold bottled beer or lemon sour. The dim sum selection also includes shumai, spring rolls, and fried aubergine, while cold side dishes like sweet-and-sour Chinese cabbage pickles (lahongcai) and century eggs make good companions for a leisurely drink.
The noodle and rice selections are just as diverse. Dishes include mapo tofu soba, which coats thin curly noodles in a sauce lifted by Sichuan pepper, and kakuni soba, featuring tender braised pork belly over a broth fragrant with star anise. Set options are also generous, pairing spicy, pleasantly numbing hot-and-sour noodles (sanlatangmen) with takana mustard greens fried rice, while the standalone fried rice carries a solid seasoning that complements the house soup.
From stir-fries like liver with garlic chives or twice-cooked pork over rice to a quick bowl of noodles on the way home from work, the shop delivers the satisfying versatility typical of everyday Tokyo町中華 (machichuka).
